Go Bigger, Go Smarter: How Hypontech's LV ESS Parallel Operation Supercharges Solar Systems

Published on : 2024-10-14

In the rapidly evolving world of solar energy, flexibility and scalability are key to meeting growing energy demands and maximizing system efficiency. Hypontech's low-voltage energy storage system (LV ESS) offer a cutting-edge solution with their advanced parallel operation capabilities.

This parallel operation allows for the seamless integration and expansion of solar systems, providing users with the ability to enhance their energy storage capacity and adapt to changing needs.

What’s the Parallel Operation of LV ESS?

Parallel operation in LV ESS refers to the interconnection of multiple LV energy storage inverters and LV battery units to operate as a cohesive system. This process involves synchronizing the output of each inverter to ensure stable power delivery and effective load sharing.

What a Parallel Operation Can Bring?

The parallel operation of Hypontech’s LV ESS offers several benefits that make it a popular choice for expanding energy storage capacities and improving system efficiency.

Expand System Capacity

By adding additional HES series hybrid inverters and HBP LV battery units, Hypontech’s LV ESS can accommodate higher power demands without replacing the entire infrastructure. This is highly practical for scenarios requiring greater power output or higher energy storage, such as large-scale residential, commercial, or industrial applications.

Enhance Flexibility

Parallel operation make the system more flexible, allowing users to start with a smaller, more affordable system and gradually expand it as their needs grow, meeting varying electricity demands at different stages and reducing the pressure of a large-scale initial investment.

Improve System Reliability

Reliability is a key benefit of Hypontech’s parallel systems. If one inverter or battery unit fails, the others can continue to operate, minimizing downtime and ensuring a continuous supply of energy.

This redundancy is crucial in applications where consistent power supply is critical, such as in homes or businesses relying on solar energy for backup or daily operations.

In contrast, systems with one inverter of equivalent power present a higher risk. If there is a fault in any part of the inverter, the entire system will shut down, leaving no backup to maintain the energy supply.

Boost System Efficiency

During periods of low load, the system can activate only a portion of the inverters to maintain efficient operation. As the load increases, additional inverters automatically engage, ensuring the system remains in optimal operating condition at all times.

Realize Monitoring and Management

The HES series hybrid inverters and HBP LV batteries support intelligent control systems via Hypon.Cloud. Users can achieve real-time monitoring of each inverter's operational status, facilitating distributed energy management and fault diagnosis for maintenance and performance optimization.

Three Types of Hypontech’s LV ESS Parallel Mode

9+10 Mode

In this mode, a maximum of 9 inverters (with the same power and software version) can be operated in parallel, and up to 10 batteries (with the same capacity and software version) can be connected.

  • Communication between the HES inverters is done via CAN, and the HBP battery BMS connects to each inverter individually through CAN communication.

  • Each inverter requires the installation of a Data Logger, with data uploaded from each Data Logger to the Hypon.Cloud platform.

  • Parameter settings are issued by Hypon.Cloud to the Master inverter, and the operational status of the Slave inverters is managed by the Master inverter.

  • The system supports one-time network configuration, with the Master inverter automatically forwarding the network information.

In this mode, errors in the Slave inverters do not affect the overall system operation, but an error in the Master inverter will cause the entire system to shut down.

9+1 Mode

In this mode, a maximum of 9 inverters (with the same power and software version) can be operated in parallel, all sharing one battery.

  • Communication between the HES inverters and between the HBP battery and inverters is done via CAN.

  • Each inverter requires the installation of a Data Logger, with data uploaded from each Data Logger to the Hypon.Cloud platform.

  • Parameter settings are sent from Hypon.Cloud to the Master inverter, and the operational status of the Slave inverters is managed by the Master inverter.

  • The system supports one-time network configuration, with the Master inverter automatically forwarding the network information.

In this mode, errors in the Slave inverters do not affect the overall system operation, but an error in the Master inverter will cause the entire system to shut down.

3+1 Mode

In this mode, a maximum of 3 inverters (with the same power and software version) can be operated in parallel, with three single-phase hybrid inverters forming a three-phase low-voltage hybrid inverter, all sharing one battery.

  • A Master inverter is set for each phase (L1, L2, L3), and other inverters in the same phase act as Slave inverters.

  • The BMS of the battery host is connected to the Master inverter.

  • Each inverter requires the installation of a Data Logger, with data uploaded from each Data Logger to the Hypon.Cloud platform.

  • Parameter settings are issued from Hypon.Cloud to the Master inverters, and the operational status of the Slave inverters is managed by the Master inverters.

  • The system supports one-time network configuration, with the Master inverters automatically forwarding network information.

In this mode, an error in the Master inverter of any phase will cause the entire system to shut down.
